2023 African Union Internship Program For Young Africans

The African Union Internship Program for Young Africans is an incredible opportunity for young professionals to gain exposure to the workings of the African Union and develop their professional skills. This program is open to all African nationals who meet the eligibility criteria outlined by the African Union Commission.

The African Union Commission seeks to build its capacity to deliver on its objectives, and the Internship Program is a key component of this strategy. The program is designed to offer interns an opportunity to gain professional exposure and to complement their academic experience. Successful applicants will work alongside experienced professionals from various fields and have the opportunity to interact with individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds and beliefs.

To be eligible for the African Union Internship Program, applicants must be actively enrolled in at least the final year of a Bachelor’s degree program or have obtained a Bachelor’s degree or an advanced/ post-graduate (Masters) qualification in a related academic field. Additionally, applicants must be nationals of a member state of the African Union, fluent in at least one of the African Union working languages (Arabic, English, French, or Portuguese), be no more than thirty-two (32) years of age at the time of selection, possess the highest standard of moral conduct and integrity, and have not been convicted of any serious criminal offence excluding minor traffic offences.

Applicants are required to submit a motivation letter indicating what they expect to gain out of the internship program, a copy of a valid passport or national identity card, certified copies of relevant academic certificates, current curriculum vitae (CV), and a recommendation letter for an internship from the institution of learning they are attending. The application process is online, and applicants are encouraged to provide as much relevant information as possible.

The African Union Commission will have no financial obligation towards interns, and interns will be responsible for their travel arrangements and the cost of accommodation and living expenses. However, the Commission will use reasonable efforts to assist the interns in obtaining their entry and residence visas. Additionally, interns are not entitled to any compensation for travel and are not entitled to medical travel or medical evacuation to and from the internship location at the expense of the Commission. Therefore, interns must have individual insurance coverage throughout the duration of the internship.

The internship will be authorized only once for three (3) months, renewable one time for any candidate. The program does not require prior work experience, and the AU encourages all qualified individuals to apply.

In conclusion, the African Union Internship Program is an excellent opportunity for young Africans to gain professional exposure and develop their skills in a Pan-African environment. The program offers an opportunity to learn from experienced professionals and to interact with individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds and beliefs. I encourage all eligible candidates to apply and take advantage of this remarkable opportunity.
