2023 Steve Weston and Trust Scholarships For International Students


The Steve Weston and Trust Scholarship is currently accepting applications for postgraduate study at the University of Dundee in the UK for the academic year of 2023. This scholarship is available for international students from 27 African, American, and Asian countries who hold an Honours degree in Law, Economics, Geology, Petroleum, or Mining Engineering, Finance at 2nd class upper level or above. The scholarship provides full coverage of academic tuition fees, as well as a £12,600 stipend paid over 12 months to cover living expenses, an arrival allowance of £750, and a thesis/internship report allowance of £580.

To be considered for this scholarship, applicants must have an offer for the LLM in International Mineral Law and Policy or LLM in International Oil and Gas Law and Policy programs, as well as display intellectual ability, leadership potential, and a proven track record to rise to positions of influence in their home country. It is also preferred that applicants have some post-degree work experience in energy or natural resource development in the government, private sector, or academia.

To apply for this scholarship, candidates who are offered unconditional admission to the full-time LLM in Mineral Law and Policy/LLM in International Oil and Gas Law programs should provide a 500-word Personal Statement and an updated CV to be sent by email attachment to Alison Anderson a.e.anderson@dundee.ac.uk. Candidates who do not already hold an unconditional offer for one of the named programs will not be considered.

The decision about the awards of these Scholarships will be made by the end of June 2023. Given that these scholarships are highly competitive, it is important for applicants to demonstrate in their Personal Statement that they are motivated to make a career that will take them to a position of leadership in the energy or natural resource development sector in their own country within 10 years of their Scholarship. They must also be committed to networking to find global solutions and be able to use their studies and experience gained in the UK to benefit themselves, their country, and the UK.
