2023 University of Waikato International Excellence Scholarships

The University of Waikato, located in New Zealand, is offering International Excellence Scholarships for qualified undergraduate and postgraduate students who are interested in pursuing their studies in New Zealand. The scholarship was established in 2015 to promote educational opportunities, foster internationalization, and support talented international applicants who are enrolling as new students into undergraduate or postgraduate programs at the University of Waikato.

The scholarship has a value of up to NZD$20,000 for undergraduate students and up to NZD$15,000 for postgraduate students. Successful applicants may also be called upon to become global ambassadors for the University of Waikato. The scholarship is open to all countries, and the deadline is not specified. 

To be eligible for the scholarship, applicants must be applying to enroll full-time in an undergraduate or postgraduate program, as a new international student to the University of Waikato. They must have received a conditional or unconditional offer of place from the University of Waikato and have a minimum GPA-equivalency of B+ in the most recent qualification that was used to gain entrance to the qualification at the University of Waikato. 

Applicants must not currently be enrolled at the University of Waikato or be coming to the University of Waikato via a sponsoring body or on a Guaranteed Credit Arrangement or through a study abroad or student exchange agreement. Students who study online with the University are not eligible to apply for the International Excellence Scholarship, with the exception of students who choose to study at the Waikato China Learning Centre (CLC) at Hainan University.

The NZ Government has announced that the New Zealand border will re-open for international students in October 2022. All new international students (excluding CLC students) who wish to commence their studies online in 2022 will instead be automatically awarded a 20% discount on their tuition fees and will receive a travel grant once the borders have reopened, and they transfer to New Zealand for face-to-face studies.

To apply for the scholarship, candidates must be ready to submit their conditional or unconditional offer of place from the University of Waikato and a personal statement that sets out their academic achievements and goals. The scholarship application process is straightforward and can be initiated by clicking on the link provided on the University's website.
